📆 July brings a variety of events on the Scottish running Calendar and allows Harriers to take on the challenges of running races of different lengths and terrains.
In early July, the ever-popular Moffat 15k trail race took place with three Harriers making the 50 mile journey south to compete.
All Harriers ran very well on the day with 🥇 Emily Renfrew taking First female home in 60: 02. 🥉 Matt O’Connor grabbed a podium place in 3rd with 54:11 whilst David Gemmell ran a PB on the night.

☀️ Tollcross parkrun was bathed in warm sunshine for last Saturday’s parkrun, which formed the 10th fixture in our Summer Championship. 41 Harriers were treated to the park looking at its best, with the refurbished glasshouse and the rose garden in full bloom.
🙌🏻 Adam Stark was the winner in a time of 17:24 - this placed Adam as the fastest Harrier ever to compete at Tollcross. Donald MacLaren was 2nd Harrier home in a fine time of 18:06, grabbing a new PB. Sam Kelly, in fine form, also claimed a PB with a time of 19:18, finishing in 7th place.

🌞 Harriers begin summer championships at Elder Park
🏴 Bellahouston Harriers received a warm welcome at Elder Park parkrun on Saturday 29 April as the club’s summer championships got underway with a string of ‘🅿️🅱️’ performances.
🫶 More than 5️⃣0️⃣ members – seniors and juniors – congregated in Govan for a blast over the 5k distance, with the cool but calm conditions ideal for running.
🌳 The Elder Park route comprises of a flat but twisty course with a smaller first lap and then 🔁 3 laps of around 1300 metres.

🌳 The 59th Tom Scott Memorial Road Races took place at Strathclyde Park on the 2nd of April 2023. Some late adjustments to the route were made due to 🚸 construction work within the park.
🌞 The sold-out race was run in excellent conditions, providing a true test of the effectiveness of participants running fitness going into the spring season.

🏴 The Scottish National Road Relays took place at Livingston on the traditional course for the fifteenth time. The event consists of teams of 6 men and 4 women.
🏃🏼♀️ Two complete teams of women Harriers travelled the 30-mile trip to Livingston to take part. The first of the Harriers team got off to a good start with a 21:37 recorded by Emma Rogerson. The second Harrier, Kristina Greig, ran 38:33 on the longer second leg. Angela Campbell had another excellent run clocking 23:06. The team was anchored home by Katherine Hylands in a time of 42:49. 🌧️ It was wet, it was windy, it was Greenock in March for the 5-mile race which in corporates the Renfrewshire 5 mile championship.
🏴 This well organised race, starting and finishing in Battery Park, has always attracted a good number of Harriers, and the 2023 edition, saw club members enter in large numbers once again.

🏆 The Blue Riband of the cross-country season took place at Callender Park in very good running conditions. The eagerly awaited Scottish National XC Championships saw large numbers finish, the men’s race saw 675 and 307 women completing the strenuous 10k course. 29 Harriers, including 2 juniors, took on the challenge.

🌳 Last Saturday saw the eagerly anticipated Mob Match between 💙 Bellahouston Harriers and 💜 Bellahouston Road Runners held at Pollok parkrun. This was the 7️⃣th running of the event and provides the opportunity for club members to participate in a 5k run and thereafter go back to Cartha for some coffee and rolls. ☕🥐
🦠 The event survived the pandemic by adopting a virtual approach, and this was the second post-Covid run. An incredible 1️⃣3️⃣1️⃣ participants entered, with Bellahouston Road Runners fielding 69 to Bellahouston Harriers 62.

📆 The Nigel Barge Memorial 10k was held on the 22nd of January and doubled up as the West's 10k Road Running Championship. The event has been run by Maryhill Harriers for 80 years and consists of an undulating two-lap course starting and finishing at the Garscube Complex. The event was part of our Club Championship and attracted 26 Harriers in a sold-out field of 400.

👟The West District Championship returned to Ayrshire on a bright, but cold, afternoon last Saturday on a course adjacent to the Ayrshire Athletics Arena. The course conditions were good for the senior 8.5k events.
🏴 The event comprised of individual and team events and a large contingent of 36 Harriers took part.

🟣 The Jimmy Irvine 10k was back after a 2-year absence. It is traditionally one of the last road races in the West of Scotland prior to Christmas. The race was once again very well organised with an excellent buffet 🥪🧁 post-race.
🌳 Given the constraints of Bellahouston Park, the route is a bit twisty with a number of hairpin bends. The weather for Sunday’s race was an amazing 15 degrees and some participants were complaining about the heat ☀️ which was incredible for November!

🏴 21 Harriers made the journey across the Forth and a remarkable 484 entrants took part in the men’s race, resulting in the start being extremely busy as runners jostled for a good starting spot.

🌳 The eagerly awaited Scottish National Relays returned to Cumbernauld Park last Saturday. The weather was very wet and the ground was muddy, slippy, and made for heavy going. The races proved to be challenging and a true test of x-country running.

🌧️ After a week of incessant rain on the Southside of Glasgow, it looked as if weather conditions for the West District Championships would be difficult and extremely slippy.

📍Last Sunday saw members competing in various parts of the United Kingdom. The nearest event to home was the Glasgow 10k, followed closely by the popular half-marathon which ran through Pollok Park and Bellahouston Park.
⛰The 10k started in George Square and headed up St. Vincent Street to be met by the sound of the rock choir after about a kilometre. The conditions for the race were excellent, with little wind and a good temperature for running.

🏆 The last round of the club's Winter Championship took place at a cold Hutchesons’ Grammar track on Thursday evening. The one-mile track race saw over 30 Harriers compete in 5 separate heats.

🤩 Last Saturday saw one of the most eagerly awaited events of the Scottish winter running calendar return to Callendar Park - Lindsay’s National Cross Country Championships!

🌳 This Saturday morning saw the seventh race of our Winter Championship take place at the scenic Drumpellier Country parkrun. For many members, this was their first experience of this well-run Parkrun; a two-loop course encompassing a lovely mix of tarmac and compact trail paths winding through the woodlands.

🏆 The 3rd round of the Bellahouston Harriers Winter Championship took place last Saturday in the scenic Queen's Park.
📣 The Race Director (and Bellahouston Harrier), Laura Ritchie, gave a comprehensive briefing on the tricky course. We held the April Virtual 2-Mile Time Trial, although there was nothing virtual about the huffing and puffing to achieve the times! We had 58 entries submitted which is great - so great, we’re gonna do it all again in May so that you may compare how many Quarintini’s you’ve been drinking, how many trips to the fridge, and how it’s all impacting your times!
Out of our 58 entrants, Gregor was 1st Male in 9:34, and Kristina 1st Female in 12:29, congrats both.
